LATER THAT EVENING, after the moon turned the lake silver, Rafael emerged from sleep to the pop and crackle of a steady fire. He lay on his back, staring up at a clear sky full of stars. Looking into that heavenly expanse, a soft hum filled his head and a feeling of being watched back.

The fire sputtered in agitation at being disturbed. Rafael turned his head toward the heat and saw fresh twigs poking out above the flames. A slender arm pulled back. Hailey sat on her knees, leaning over the rocky perimeter Byron had made. Firelight danced over her exquisite, full breasts, and shadows played along the underside of her curves and the crevices of her smooth, beautiful body.

Three wolves slept curled up in the shadows beyond the fire. Two were noticeably absent—Hudson and Layla, no surprise. They knew to enjoy their fun before the full moon.

Hailey sat back and watched the flames, becoming hypnotized by the movement of light, unaware of Rafael watching her.

This was the first night they had not cuddled up together. Like his wolf, Rafael had wanted her the moment he saw her shift and rise from the ground, as proud as a queen from a bygone era.

Agreeing to lead her pack temporarily had been a risk. As he had feared, they were becoming closer. He wanted her even more. His dick responded to the sight of her, as hard as the towering pines they had passed through on their way to the lake. It jutted straight up—an arrow aimed at the moon.

Hailey looked over, straight at his pulsing organ, as disobedient as his wolf. She made no sound, didn’t even blink, as she lowered her hands to the ground and moved toward him on all her hands and knees. Wavy blonde hair curtained her face as olive-brown eyes blazed a path that crossed the few feet to where he lay breathing rapidly. A fresh flow of blood rushed to his groin. A bead of moisture glistened at the tip.

The distance between them was short, but Hailey took her sweet time.

Rafael had held himself back every time he was tempted to lose control and plunge into this gorgeous female. The question was now whether he could hold her back, if she was the one to mount him.
